Name Suggestions!

Since there aren’t many names to pull out of the Alice books, I’m going to go with the “Allison” gag and continue to name children with names that sound like they end with “in,” “at,” “of,” “on,” etc.

  3. Clearly you’re the person I need to go to for more names. I also should put the “aden” names all on there. They seem to be THE trendy names for kids my daughter’s age — Aiden, Caden, Brayden, Jayden, Hayden….

    Oh, the dreaded “ayden” sound fad…it’s so funny how people tend to glom onto something without even meaning to. I still like a lot of those types of names, even though I guess now I’ll never use them. I’ll just go with something more traditional…like Mayonnaise or Copper or something. 😉

    I have to admit, I cheated with the names…there’s a site called nameberry.com where you can type in what you want a name to end (or begin) with, and I used that. My favorite’s gotta be Aladdin,though…”a lad in” just sounds funny, plus bonus points for being another Disney character! 😉

    Oooh, thanks for letting me know about that site.

    Having a kid has gotten me very interested in generational naming trends. I sort of assumed they were rooted in fad. But we gave my daughter a name I picked out 12 years ago, and it turns out that name is in ascension *right now*. Worse, it turns out that like 3 of my other favorites are incredibly popular. I can’t count the number of Olivias we’ve met who are my daughter’s age, and I put that on the short-list with no immediate friends breeding and no access to current popular names. And I have been a name geek since I was a kid — I had to grow a little older to figure out why Mom wouldn’t let me take my _Name Your Baby_ book to school to read when I was 13. If anyone should have happened upon something unusual, it’s me.

    It seems like name trends are influenced by some kind of generational aesthetic that is WAY more subtle than you’d expect. It fascinates me. And I’m not going to give anyone crap for naming their kid *ayden. I love Aiden and would have had it on the short list if we’d had a boy.

    Oh, I totally know what you mean!! I’ve always been a fan of the old fashioned names, and my girl name has been picked out for a good six years now…of course, that means that it’s now steadily rising in popularity. >_< My husband picked our boy name; about a year later, I had a distant semi-friend use it. Sigh.

    I’ve always been really interested in names, too; I used to play this game with myself at the library where I’d try and guess what year a patron was born based on their name…I could usually get within ten years. It’s fascinating.

    Why don’t you google Welsh, Gaelic and Celtic names. They are really old fashoned and traditional sounding. A few examples of Welsh names are as follows:

    Gwenyth, Cariad, Gwynyth, Seren, Rhiannon, Angharad, Anwen, Ffion, Elin, Branwen, Sian (girls)

    Gerraint, Gethin, Llewelyn, Lloyd, Sion, Dewi, Dafydd, Aneurin, Dylan, Ieuan, Tomos, Martyn (boys)

    I’ve just remembered a great one for an evil boy! Or the son of an evil sim … Dai Wonderland. It’s pronounced ‘Die’ … DIE WONDERLAND!

    A lot of the names above are great! I have two specific suggestion for Allison and Hetal’s children, though. Since Allison is a little kooky, I think she should strive to preserve her wife’s (lol) Indian heritage and give their children Indian names. If they have a boy, his name should be Isha because it goes along with Wonderland (Isha Wonderland sounds like “It’s a Wonderland”). If they have a girl, her name should be Divya (Divya Wonderland- it ends in an “of” sound and kinda sounds like “Diva”, which would perfectly suit a spoiled daughter).
